J.N. Adam Memorial Hospital

Originally opening as a tuberculosis treatment hospital in 1912, J.N. Adam Memorial Hospital employed pioneering therapies. Namely, sunlight. The building was built with areas designed to maximize the sunlight exposed to patients. This treatment was actually rather efficacious, however the history of the hospital doesn’t stop there, it’s just buried. It closed and reopened as a state mental hygiene facility in 1960. There isn’t much on its history past that point, except that it was supposed to be closed in 1962, and remained opened at least until 1972. Too many patients weren’t getting better.
